I can officially knock another thing off of my bucket list -- safari in Africa. I am sure this won't be my last one either.
My amazing friend Ashlee of Will Drink for Travel, arranged for us to do Safari in Botswana. The tour group picked us up from the hotel in Zambia and drove us to the Botswana/Zambia border. Once at the border we boarded a small ferry to cross the Zambezi River to enter Botswana. Waiting for us on the other side of the river was our safari truck and tour guide.
Once we entered Botswana, we had another interesting experience at the Border Patrol in Botswana. We had to wash our shoes of on a wet pad to stop the transmission of Foot and Mouth disease. Not quite sure how that works, but we had to do it, LOL! Afterwards we boarded our truck to head to Chobe National Park for our game drive and river cruise.
Before entering the park, our drive stopped and let us snack on muffins and tea. That was an unexpected treat. Once we were in the park, we were able to get really close to the animals. I was really shocked by this. Yet to see giraffes, elephants, antelope, impalas, and warthogs in there natural habitat was so cool. We drove for hours then headed to lunch.
After lunch, we boarded the smallest boat ever for our river safari. Ok, so the boat wasn't that small, but it seems small after you learn that the waters are crocodile infested and hippos are the most dangerous animal in Africa. All I kept thinking was what if a hippo capsizes this boat! LOL! However it was amazing to see the elephants at the watering hole and hippos jumping into the river!
We didn't get to see any lions, cheetahs, or leopards, so I will definitely have to do another safari. I am in awe of how beautiful Africa truly is! Enjoy pictures of safari in Botswana and the sunset at our resort in Zambia!
