KG and I are here with our top five favorite albums of 2016! Let's make it clear, these our OUR favorites! LOL! As always we invite discussion, so feel free to share with us your favorite albums of the year in the comment section.
He Says:
5. Solange – A Seat at the Table
Complete change up from her sound on Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams. But honestly, she brought the heat on this one. Raw blackness. She didn’t care what you thought about her or her lyrics, she was going to be real.
4. Chance the Rapper - Coloring Book
Jazzy flow with a gospel undertone. Mix that with Hip Hop and you have a winner.
3. Rihanna- Anti
Seven albums in, Rihanna finally gave us her “great one”. Every track is filled with attitude and rawness. “Work” is arguably the most fun track of 2016. (And Rihanna, we still need that extended version of James Joint please!)
2. Kaytranada – 99.9%
Kaytranada has been making fire mashups and remixes for years now. His first album did not disappoint. Throw it on and you don’t have to skip a track.
1. Anderson .Paak – Malibu
You ever connect with an album immediately? Like it hits you right in your gut. That is what happened with .Paak’s Malibu. I knew this would be my number one right when I heard it and it lasted all year. Funky and soulful Hip Hop is the best way I can describe it.

5. Kaytranada – 99.9%
Any album that had Phonte, Syd, Little Dragon, and Anderson.Paak was bound to be a winner. Just let this one play! Oh and they dusted off Craig David. This was just a groove start to finish.
4. Phonte & Eric Roberson - Tigallero
You know how some combinations just work, yea, this is one of those times. I just loved the groove in this album. Eric and Phonte just work.
3. Chance the Rapper - Coloring Book
This album was the closest I made it to church all year. The whole album felt like heart felt worship.
2. Solange - Seat at the Table
Solange gave us a stunning work of art this year! This album was FOR US to take in and enjoy. When that beat drop on Cranes in the Sky, shitttttt! BRAVO!
1. Rihanna - Anti
Now y'all should have known my bitch was going to take the number one spot on my list! Man Anti aged so incredibly well. The album dropped on January 28th and I have not stopped playing. After each listen I had a different favorite song. She even invested in some vocal lessons; she's not winning vocalist of the year anytime soon, but I am so proud of her growth. Well done RiRi!
AB
Sidenote: Kanye had a fucking amazing album this year. Then Kanye “Kanye’d” with meeting with the fucknut elect. Thus we had to remove him from this list for the Culture. FOR THE CULTURE!
